Don't you have to cut the metal buckets behind the headlights to get these to fit? That would make me nervous on an older car.

Are these H4 style lights? Or are they sealed beam type like the ones on US cars pre 87?

My initial reaction was the same as wwest, " why is this guy so proud of a set of halogen incandescent headlamps that are plainly labeled in a way intended to mislead?". It was only after an explanation was posted did I realize the actual situation.

And now, will they actually fit an 88, and how much did you pay?

Has anyone out there tried the "hylow" type HIDs? The bulb has a "solenoid" that clicks it into the HB position.

You need to be creative to get the wires into and out of the buckets. It is possible to do the installation without cutting holes in the buckets for the harness.

These units are of the sealed-beam type form factor. Not having anything but a 74 or 79 model-year car, I can't offer any input on whether they will fit in an '88 MY car.

As for cost, I believe that the cost was somewhere around $535 USD for the pair.

I have the X6024 kit in my 914 and they do work great. Yes they are real Xenon's/HID using a D1R type bulb and a H3 high beam and no you do not have to cut the headlight bucket at all. But my first set fogged up and the drivers side fogged up on the second set. You should have bought them from Sylvania you would have saved a couple a dollars.

well...
I prefer the look of my H4's
the Xenarc's are going back.
I'm not sold on the look of the 7" lights compared to the H4.
lesson learned.
I had to see it in person to make the final decision.

The actual look of the unit it self? Or the light it projects?

just the actual lsize of the 7" light in the car.
I didn't install these lights, but I did put my car beside another car with the old original 7" lights in it.
the H4's are much bigger and have a more asthetically pleasing look to the front end imo.
this is my car with the H4's
