Default headlight bucket

The upper lip at the top of the bucket that the chrome trim hinges onto is missing and I have a feeling I will need to replace the bucket. Because of this, the rubber seal won't allow the headlight assembly sit on the fender. Its a shame to have to replace the bucket because that top lip is missing, unless there is an alternative fix.

Pictures man, pictures.

Often new rubber is so thick and stiff that the ring won't compress it far enough to allow the screw into it the hole at the bottom. Sorry for all the innuendo. It was you, not me. Any chance you do have the upper lip and your rubber is just too thick?

No upper lip, because I compared the driver's side to the passenger and there is an obvious difference. This explains why the rubber seal and the chrome ring won't stay on and it just didn't look right, thick in one area at the top and just right on the bottom. I have even glued the rubber and it didn't help. My friend at the body shop had some old Porsche headlight parts including the rubber sealant. The original rubber is smaller than the replacement, but it didn't help using the original rubber.
I can get the screw in, but the top doesn't have anything to hook onto, so it sticks out and I am afraid it will fly off when driving on the fwy.
But it seems to be a shame that it can't be fixed.

Can't you weld on some material and grind it to shape?

Might be able to weld a strip deeper in the housing then tack it near the front.

That's what I am wondering if it can be done. I guess I will have to visit my body shop.

Have no idea. I bought the vehicle 13 mos ago. Maybe someone here may have seen this before and might give some insight as to how the lip can be virtually non-existant.

maybe a crash followed by a cheapo repro fender or bucket?

I'd also see about welding a lip back on

I have seen someone post the question as to how to zip tie the headlight, and I also would like to know how to do that.

just find a place on the interior of the bucket or sink a screw in, or wrap cord around the wires
