Agreed, but I've been lucky and obviously let my guard down.

In the past 10 years I've bought a few cars sight unseen, 3rd party PPI only.

These include a Ruf CTR2, 993TT, 993TT S and always got what was promised.

Live and learn, even at my age....lol

Depending on what I had taken from me I'd hire a PI to locate this guy and visit him...as much on principle as anything else.
I'd make it a vacation of sorts.

I too have bought sight unseen on the internet and been lucky so far, Sorry for your trouble and hope you corner the guy and your money. Re 4 speed, I think 4 Speed was an option for 1972 911S .

Default Was listed for sale back in October on old cars.com

This same car was listed for $29,000 on www.oldcars.com with a bogus Austin TX address and phone number back in mid-October.

What is even worse is to look for the original thread on Pelican from two or three years ago and see what the car looked like before it was restored.

Nightmare scenario through and through.

When I bought my '74, from someone I worked with, he told me it had a clear title. Turns out it had $2500 in delinquent reg fees due. I had to threaten small claims before he paid up.
Anymore I would never buy a car without seeing it in person, the title, DMV and police report showing all clear.

This was the ad I was looking at, and it's still posted as an 8 cylinder.

My brother got scammed one year ago on a Volkswagen Phaeton, via EBay. The car later showed up on Auto Trader, and he reported it, and reported it, and reported it. The site acted as if it was not a big deal. He got almost no help from the sites it was listed on. It was an elaborate scam, and for all I know, still running.

I posted about this fraud a couple weeks ago. I reported it to autotrader and posted on Rennlist and PP forum. I am sorry for your loss. I hope this guy does get caught and prosecuted.
