964 Decklid (w/electric wing) on an SC?
I'm hoping to get in touch with someone who has actually installed a 964 C2/C4 ('89-'94?) decklid (with the 'electric' wing) on an SC (specifically a car with CIS and a/c).
I've been told that the decklid will physically fit on a 1980 SC (the one from a 993 will not) if the hinges are changed. But I know that there's some other stuff (the electric motor, etc.) under the decklid which might interfere with the CIS airbox cover, a/c condenser, York a/c compressor, etc. Can the 964 decklid be installed without major surgery and giving up my (admittedly anemic) a/c?

I did it on my '88 Coupe and I'm very happy with it. Pictures in post below.

Chuck, I can't find the email. Sorry, though.
Click HERE to see the decklid on my car, and click HERE to see the decklid raised.
The only difference between the pre 964 decklids and the 964 ones is that the hinges mount about an inch farther apart on the 964 lid than they do on the older ones. You have to either bend the hinges or do a little cutting and welding on the 964 hinges to get it to work. Other than that, the lids are the same size.
To wire the decklid, you run a power window switch up to the cabin. There is no way to make it speed activated on an SC.
Click for a larger version of the wiring diagram:
Decklids with spoilers cost anywhere from $250 to $700 on the used market. I paid $250 for one I found in the Rennlist classifieds. Keep an eye out there and the Pelican classifieds. The best thing is to find someone who's doing a track conversion and is going to a fixed wing.

Also, make sure you get the 964 hinges with the decklid. Major pain in the butt to retrofit earlier hinges, but can be done.
You will have to either lose the A/C condenser or put another one in a different spot, there just isn't enough room to fit it between the grill and the engine.

jc

Jack- Love your car! Just curious, what type of digital camera do you have? Quality of your photos is amazing. I think Bill G. would like to know as well. Thanks, Sean.

The hinges are easy. Get a piece of pipe or tubing, small, like 5/16 I.D. or such, and cut it to @ 1 1/2~2 inches ( i dont remember the measurements of the difference between the SC hinges and the C2 hinges), get a longer bolt, slide it through the hinge on the decklid, and then through the pipe, and then thread it into the mount. Use the pipe like a spacer. Worked on my car for 3 years.
