1978 sc
hello all, Have been without a 911 for a few years after selling my 95 993. my plan was to get a earlier car but took longer then planned as values have increased out of my budget for a per 73 car. Just looking for pros/cons on a 78sc said to have a 77 tub very early production in model year. motor and trans fresh rebuild reputable shop 1000 miles ago along with refurbish complete factory air. Body straight paint very faded with 7 and 8 Fuchs. Goal is to backdate remove turbo tail go with duck tail along with other items to change look a bit. Price seems right am I on track for a good base for my next 911. thx

I see that you might have or had a E30 M3 from the picture in your avatar. I have a M3 also, and I recently purchased an 81 SC.
My first 911 was an 88 Targa, and I've driven a number of other 3.2 Carreras, although I've only driven one other SC, I can tell you that the SCs are more revvie, have better throttle response than the 3.2s. It's more like the M3 in this regard.

Great, just what I want to hear. Yes over the years I have owned 2 e-30 m-3s one new in 88 and sold the white one pictured a couple of years ago after owning for 12 + years fun cars. I am going today to drive the car and get an inspection then try to work a deal if all checks out.

I am in the process of buying a totally restored and perfect SC. This car is the bomb.
Rumor has it these cars are due to skyrocket in value, mores than even my 89 3.2.
Get it while you can.

okay if its an sc with a 77 tub , then is it not really a 77 with a 3.0 litre motor and gear box ? ?
Sounds like it might be a very fun light car , but personally i like the SC flares . Regardless sounds like you might be looking at a solid bit of kit.

Took the car for about a 40 mile drive today very solid, smooth power, shifts good, brakes straight, and a/c blows cold. A/c is a renn? system all done motor/trans and a list of items within 2000 miles ago over a 2 year period. made an offer see what happens.
Iceman, it does have wider flares as an SC should but was told by the shop which I have known the owner for years and trust him it was early prod 78 and they used 77 pans on some which says this has. Also the Turbo tail he said was factory. thanks for all the info.

picking up the SC today will post a couple pics once Home. will be great to have a 911 back in garage again. for sure needs some cosmetic tlc but inspection gave it a great mechanical clean bill of health.
