eBay replacement seat cover - reviews/comments pls!
hi,
my car (84 carrera) has some tired looking seat upholstery and I wanted to replace.
A recent discussion with a porsche carpet specialist (does not do seats) warned me against the range of commercially available (mostly on ebay) Porsche seat cover kits (vinyl in the $350-$400 range; leather in the $750+ range).
He told me that the "fit" is not quite right due to the original Recaros being manufactured in various facilities and the covers never fit quite right. He suggested going to a regular local interior shop and having new ones made.
I have not looked into a local upholsterer yet and don't know the price.
my car is not a show car - it's a daily driver, winter and all. I'm not looking to spend a ton of money here, but do want something that looks presentable.
Anyone have any prior experience with various "kits" available from ebay vendors? thanks, wp

I shopped the ebay guys but eventually went with the recommendation of a client(used car dealer type) who had been using a local shop for his interior repairs. I took the car to them and they fixed the drivers seat to match the almost perfect passenger seat IN TWO DAYS for $345. As we used to say in racing, dont be afraid of Bubba(meaning find a local mechanic/parts source) It is not always a better deal just because it is on the internet.
