I have not really been in the market lately for a "new" car, what with some huge home renos going on, but I happened to buy a lamp on kijiji for the new reno space and low and behold, there is a sweet, red 911 Carrera in the driveway.
After some chit chat, find out he's moving out of the country - "um, so, what are you doing with the 911?" - "I dunno, probably sell it" - it's an '87 he's the second owner, original owner spent $30 on a engine rebuild all stainless steel components, dal exhaust, sounds like a complete beast on start-up! All service records, new paint ($10k) receipts for everything, one crack in one of the rear rubber bumpers. Interior shows wear typical for this year - could use a new headliner and recovered seats. Has 260,000 miles.
Wants $20k which I think is fair...
I'd have to sell my current daily driver ('07 V70R) - so the 911 would then be my daily driver for 1-2 years until I can get a winter beater - not crazy about the idea, but this is one of those rare coincidence car finds that I don't want to regret passing up.
Thought I'd share my angst as I'm sure many have been in a similar position.
So, go for it, try sell an very rare, very fun and practical V70R for a classic 911???

I've never been one to make vehicle decisions based on practicality, but being solely reliant on an air cooled 911 in Toronto for a number of years may not be the best way to go.

+1 on the Toronto DD issue.
260,000 miles and $20k? Gotta be better deals than that out there....

Very true - initial plan was to wait until I could get one as a 3rd car - still probably the "smart" thing to do...

$20k for a good solid Carrera is a good buy these days, the 260k miles are a non-issue if car has been taken care of. This car will be worth more in a couple of years, your Volvo less. Not a good option in Toronto in the winter.

Buy the 911 and a $2000 beater for winter use. Problem solved.
