The Hargett shifter does not work if you want to keep the heater box. Which I need over here.

I installed the Wevo in my '87 G50 and absolutely love it. I went to the shop in San Carlos and talked w/ Hayden, the owner, and asked him to convince me why I should spend the money. His answer was that Porsche didn't leave much opportunity to improve the design of the G50 shifter.

I bought it anyway and do like the firmer feel and operate it sans boot. Oh, and there's a shorter shift throw. Minor given the cost, but for what it's worth.

All that said, I've been tempted to delete the console as well. I might just delete the AC too since it's next to useless and living in San Francisco I really don't need it. I've driven it to San Diego and LA a number of times and ended up not using it there either.

a little hard to see but I got some very thin carbon fiber sheet (0.2mm), cut it to fit and just lightly glued it on the tunnel to cover the opening and also the two front holes for the console.

Being on a weight saver trip those floorboards are actually the wrong direction. But only after I got them I realized that they are heavier than the OEM wooden boards.

Horst

What are you down to now? Your weight savings must be huge by now. I couldn't see anything in that pic left to take out!!

Wow, what a difference! Do you have a closeup of the CF piece? Where did you get it? I might do this myself.

I'd like to see a close-up of the carbon piece as well if you get a chance. Great looking cockpit!

HorstP - you got me thinking about carbon fiber. I've been wanting to do something similar for awhile and you inspired me as I'm in the process of fabricating (mold + laying 2 sheets of carbon fiber with resin) a custom piece that spans the length from just about where the seat rails start/end all the way up to just past the "hole" up near the pedals. Will then screw it into the holes where the previous console was screwed into for a secure fit. I have carpet there now so there's not much of a hole, but I want a clean look. Also want to slightly cover up the shifter mount bracket a bit, as I've deleted the boot with my Wevo.

Current state: building the template.
Next task: build a mold from expanding foam

Will keep posting the progress here.

Well I sure hope you did not expect anything fancy. This is a better picture how I closed the tunnel.

Second picture shows more carbon fiber, a new cover for the coupler housing. Since I took the photo this afternoon, that piece of OEM cardboard has also been replaced with a similar size carbon fiber board.

Nice idea. Are those home-built floor boards as well? Mine originals are getting long in the tooth. I thought about getting some flat CF sheet and cutting them from that. Haven't priced it out yet though.

No, I got them from http://www.netzwerk-9elf.de. Obviously no choice for you (shipping) but their stuff is very good quality and not so overpriced as many companies doing parts for Porsche are.

In the second picture, with the coupler cover, how did you cut those recessed screw holes? Looks great!
