100k is nothing for someone looking.
You got it. I kindafigured it was something everyone who bothered to do research on how bullet-proof these cars were built knew...oh well.

Here are some pics of mine after it was detailed. http://s1339.photobucket.com/user/ep...?sort=3&page=1

Your car looks nice, but it may be the turbo tail that turns people off. If it were a Carrera tail, it would be much more desirable.

Once again, most of the rise in values is for G50 cars, not so much for 915s, and mainly for pristine, all original examples.

Funny, because when I bought my '89, I didn't really want to pay the premium and would have jumped on your car last year. I didn't want an investment piece, just a clean well-represented example under $30,000. The problem was so many 915 cars I saw had lived a rough life or were simply misrepresented.

Ultimately, I guess my car is more than just a "driver," which means I drive it less than I intended, even if I do it subconsciously.

That I don't agree with, nice/no stories SC's and Carreras all seem to be in demand. The G50 only dictates an incremental bump in price.

Yeah, I think there is a strong contingent of purists who desire the lighter, cheaper-to-repair 915 over the G50 cars.

bottom line is this. guys on a forum emotionally atached to cars cant judge values.

these are used cars that have depreciated and are in various states of condition. nicer cars will get better money. just like any other commodity.

to consider how much cars will appreciate in the future, and furthermore to purchase on this theory, is a fools game.

go get a good car and enjoy it for what it is.

I think you and couple others misunderstood me, I said it would turn off those not well versed in Porsches. It's a newbie that might be scared off by a car with 100k on the clock. All of us here are obviously well versed and know that the cars are bullet proof!

Real nice! T-Tail throws her off though and could be one of the issues.

I'm surprised to hear that. Seemed to me that a lot of G50 owners expect really big premiums for their cars. And a lot of prospective buyers don't know how much heavier the G50 is or how problem prone it is...

ha! yea, the t-tail...the previous owner put it on. I've been on the hunt for a Carrera tail and will probably swap it when I find one...or maybe I'll just take it off.

-------------------------

I would guess a depreciation of $1500 per year at 5000 miles per year. Much more with maintenance neglect. Much less locked away and preserved.

In my mind, $25000 for a 88 Targa would need to be original owner, consistent maintenance documents, no collision damage, extra clean and zero mechanical issues with less than 30000 miles.

Same here! Previous put it on and it took a good year for me to find a good condition Carrera tail. I think it's easier to find just a deck lid, if you opt for tail less.

Testament to the strong values, I just went into the trading post in the Porsche Post magazine. An '87 Targa w/ 82k on the clock is listed for $24,900 and an '87 928 S-4 w/ 37k on the clock and is very clean, is listed for $13,900! The S-4 was the King P-car of that day, monetarily.....
