What would be wrong with just leaving the G50 shifter exposed? I made a suede boot patterned after my stock boot that will stay in place once my center console is gone. The AppBiz carpet looks great around it. I've even collected the VW bug manual levers from our local Pick-a-Part ($1) to eliminate the center auto-heat all together. Mine will have just the brake boot and pull levers. Will be welding pivot bolts to the brake lever mechanism to mimic the early cars.

^ would you wire in a 3speed switch for the footwell blowers with the auto heat delete? Are you going to eliminate the rear blower, or keep it?

one of my vent control lever ***** broke and fell into the open shifter opening. now, i'm worried that other things (like keys) will end up down there.
