Default 1965 911 engine problem

Hi, i have a 1965 911 with a 2.0l engine and webber carbs,
can anyone identify the problem and suggest a solution?
the engine has no power and doesn't run over 4000rpm plus is very noisy, difficulty at starting the engine and is not working smoothly, if you briefly press the gas pedal it is likely the engine will shut off, when driving it regularly "coughs". I suspect that the carbs are not tuned right.

yeah that is really hard to diagnose on the internet. make sure you have fresh gas and take it to a carb tuner that has the experience in jetting and balancing these carbs

good luck.

Could be lots of things....is it timed properly, good spark to all pots, are the filters clean (gas). Are all of the carbs working in synch with air flow and prop balanced.
I'd guess a carb issue with the limited info, air fuel mix, or needs some serious cleaning. Also, carbs eventually 'wear out' and need rebuilding...the intakes can get a groove from the throttle plates or the plate rods can oval their seats allowing vacuum issues.
I've not worked on the carbs on your model but carbs are carbs.

Do a leak down test on the engine.

thanks for the advices, checked the plugs, changed the fuel filter, tuned the carbs as i could, it seems to run fine now but i intend to get the car to a specialist. i saw some oil on one spark plug so that is suspicious too

Not much of an expert but if you add your location to you profile, we can help you locate qualified folks.
