They are clearly the minority. You just don't see people regularly stating "my valve guides are just fine".

Any follow-up to this? I was actually considering driving down to Houston this weekend to take a look at the car (I'm in the DFW area). I didn't realize a rennlister was already eyeing it, though.

I'd say single digits in percentage-maybe 15% tops? There are far more 911's that run many miles without being opened up, than those that need head work.

IMO, just not worth worring about getting documentation of head work being done, which prompted my statement, if one is getting a PPI done on a possible purchase.

yeah its kind of like the head studs on SC's not a big problem at all but the internet hype would have you believe they all have issues.
admitedly though these are easier to check than valve guides.
problem is po may not let you check on a ppi unless you are prepared to pay for set of gaskets and the oil that comes out . not to mention the labor.
