Default Need help with compression test results please

Just had compression test done on 1987 carrerra that I am looking at buying...numbers were 190 to 195 on all six cylinders....from what I've tried to research I think that is good but I don't know enough about this to say for sure...car has 105,000 miles and no engine work done on it...

If those are good do I need to do a leak down test too?

Thanks in advance

The spread is most important and within 5psi has you within 2.5% which is fine. Absolute nunbers are a crapshoot since not all guages will read the same and temperature and air density will change the reading.

pretty low miles - pretty even compression - leak down....IDK, I might, I might not

I bought mine without and got lucky - but the few $ to have it done could save you 10's of thousands
what is it about a 1/2 hr shop time? (esp if the do comp test)

If you had detailed records all the way back you might gamble on it. Why didn't you have the leakdown done at the same time? Was this your test or one provided by the seller?

Regardless of these numbers you may need top end rebuild due to valve guide issue on 3.2s sooner than later. Budget $6k to $7k for this. PM me with asking price as I just bought an 89 3.2 with 118k miles and can provide details.

Mussberger.....they didn't do the Leak down because it is in a really small town and the shop had not done a leak down test in a really long time and didn't know where the tool was!

So I found another place that is going to do it on Monday....

I'd not overly think the 3.2 valve guide issue, it is such an overblown deal by now. At 105k, if your numbers all come in good, you should fully expect many more miles and years of enjoyment from this car.

Good that you'll get the leakdown done, it is piece of mind and knowledge you are after.

Small town then it should be easy to find

Hope it works out. The hunt although frustrating at times is fun and knowledge building.
