I have a dealer suggesting them bc the nearest P-dealer is 65 miles away.

wow this is a novel idea ...
my guess is they wouldnt have a freakin clue about valve guide wear, broken head studs, and other idiosynchracies of 911s, never mind the ability to pop valve covers and check this stuff..
My guess is they walk around with a paint depth guage and a compresion checker.. they will look at the 911 engine and skip the compresion , look at the belt and say it looks good.

I worked for AAG (nationwide auto insp) for awhile, for fun actually until the driving got to be too much.
No one inspector knows every make of car well...all the guys I knew that did this were gear heads but unless a Porsche owner wouldn't know 'exactly' what to look for.
Inspections cover lots of stuff, body, paint wear and tear and rust issues, 'general' mechanical condition usually thru a ride along and not a test drive (insurance issue).
I'd rec getting a indy shop to do a normal PPI.

I buy and sell a lot of cars and as you can see, I've used these guys often. They great to kick the tires, drive the car and check every aspect of the car and enusre everything is functional.
I have actually had them look at a Boxster S and cayman S I bought in the past. However, for a Porsche over 6 or 7 years old and a decent amount of miles, I'd still say go with a PPI from a certified mechanic.
