Sun Roof delete

any way it helps that whoever has done this has done it before.
all the roofs from at least '69 - 98 can be interchanged, there are some differences between the 964/993 and 911 trailing edges that need to be overcome
you lose ~40-50#s of weight from up high and gain a couple of inches of helmet room
you can leave it raw, cover w/ perlon(pictured), or use a stock headliner

So finding a donar is the long pole in the tent....I like that covering btw, ...there are a few shops locally that have done that surgury.
Do you have any idea how dif it is to just cut the bits off....I could do one of the carbon or FG plugs to and have it filled...I suspect it is a pretty non flex area.

Removing the panel and electrics doesn't get you much; the weight is mainly in the additional bracing in the roof structure on these cars.
One must open the pinch welds at the rain gutters and this is something for skilled & experienced people to do for you.

Bill,
Thanks that is a great shot...it is obviously supported by the side/rear welded bracing...are there welds along the front of the panel? IOTW could I cut the side.rear bracing and remove that structure or is it spot welded along the front or elsewhere?
Wachuko, I'd want to keep a steel lid in general, a patch panel for the sr opening would be ok tho.

i took a non sunroof 1976 roof skin and will be installing it in my 964. dont like sunroofs. i have the entire roof skin from the 76. rail to rail front to back. gonna use the gm body adhesive. stuff is stronger than welds, actually proven. that way no welding is taking place. then just bodywork it til its nice and paint. sad part is my car is already painted nice lol.

lol, i could likely pop a fiberglass repop off the skin if you like. like 5-6 layers thick of hand laid material. if you wanted cf or kevlar you would need to supply the material.

the big problem is the supply of non sun roof roofs, you could buy a new one but they are very expensive. After looking for 4 yrs I finally found a non sun roof SC at the shop that I wanted to do the work anyway, can you say serendipity?
