Default '69 911 Bumper

I recently purchased a '69 911E and she has these bumper additions. I have looked at hundreds of pictures and haven't seen any with them installed. Does anybody know if these were a factory option or aftermarket purchase?

Nice car, and E's aren't exactly common. Love the color.

That said, I was around those cars a lot in their day and I'm pretty sure those guards are aftermarket, not Porsche. I'm thinking EMPI or someone like that. I could be wrong, but if I am I'm sure there are a lot here who will correct me! Anyway I vote for aftermarket.

Aesthetically I'm ambivalent about them. Functionally I'm thinking they may offer "some" protection but if the tap is hard enough to bend the guard then they could just add to your problems. Like those silly "moose-gooser" racks on the front of SUV's. Look cool but just at another item to replace because they're really not strong enough to fend of much of anything.

Again, nice car, great color.

They were aftermarket. Can't say much for the front one, but I had one of the back ones on my '66 912 and it re-inforced the rear bumper somewhat. Helped when we were hit in the rear.

I'm not crazy about the front one either, however they will both stay for the 'uniqueness' and i don't want any holes in my bumper. Thanks for the information1
