Ed, my grandmother sat us all down and made us watch and participate in everything she did. All the traditional housewife skills, she pounded them into us like our life depended on it. I can even cross stitch. ....and it isn't so much that I have skill, what I have is confidence that I can do anything I want to do if it involves my hands. ....so, ya, in some area I have madd skills.

I have this visual of young Doug waking up at dawn to go milk the cows and pump water by hand for the house, and churn butter in a wooden barrel.

(Lost most of my day to my aching back.)

Twenty one years ago Elayne and I had a total of $1,500 to pull off our wedding. $500 food/cake, $500 rings, and $500 for the dress. The dress was very basic but beautiful with a train about ten feet long. I spent more than three hours a night for a month hand stitching sequins on the bodice, sholders, skirt and train. At least 10,000 little buggers each with a little bead in the center to hold it flat.

Needless to say it was total taboo, but man did she look good. Couldn't wait to see what was inside that thing.

Anyway, today about all I got done was to discover I can make it through three layers of leather, but I can't make it through the plastic strips that hold the headrest and seat bottoms in place. will just have to figure out something else like velcro.

Like a good wife, I've been looking for her for a lot of years but, with building a new house, can 't justify the cost.

I have one of those!! But we installed the small electrical motor that came for it. Still have the bench with the foot operated mechanism and the leather belt.

You make me go look in my entry way at the sewing machine and cabinet we use as a desk for parents to sign in and out of our daycare. Inside is my great-grandmother's sewing machine. Haven't seen in run since the '70's.

My grandmother had a working foot activated machine we got to use when we were very young. Once that thing was going there was no stopping it. Of course we thought it was funny. I'd kill my own kid if I caught them doing that to one of my family heirlooms.

This is almost the exact cabinet. I don't know who got it when my grandmother passed away. All I got was a stupid Honda and some old worthless silver coins that were like 150 years old. Who wants that.

My Juki is in storage but I have to go over and get my Plasma cutter. When I do I'll take a pic.
