You all saw this day coming. I've been super frustrated with fitting the foam into the side bolster leather, getting the seams to line up, and worse, fastening the leather to the frame. Gonna just take a deep breath and walk away for a bit. I'll get it, but it may take a couple tries.

Looks great up to here. I'm sure a man of your skill will work through it!
looking forward to seeing the end result.

I think leather bolsters are very different patterns than fabric ones. Either way, they're just a tube with a slit on the side, no? Ask the spark plug wrench guy for sewing ideas?

That's just wrong.

I think where I've screwed up is in my seam allowances. Once I've turned the leather right side out, stuffed the foam in it, worked out the folds and made it all look even, there isn't room remaining in the leather to put in the original fasteners. Several pieces need to be scrapped and remade. Learn as you go, I guess.

My biggest enemy is still my aching back.

Don't feel bad...the professional upholstery shop that recovered my SE's screwed up the bolsters as well. They are very wrinkly at the seams, which is why having them redone at a shop that can do the job correctly is on my 2013 to-do list.

So far, I haven't find a good shop I trust in the Atlanta area and upholstery work isn't in my skill set. I may end up biting the money bullet to avoid further aggravation and get a nice new pair of Nurburgring seats from Stefan at GTS Classics.

BTW, amber lamps, what you have done so far looks fabulous!

Doug has been in bed with a back ache for a month. All I've gotten done is a drawer for my metric sockets. Saturday's project put me down all over again. Been in no condition to fight leather. Thought I was feeling better, nope.

Anyway:

Ya never know how you'll do when it's gone, until it's gone. I cracked.

Doug (a.k.a. Drama LLama, Amber Lamps, etc) must have been doing some big bong hits yesterday...

was rude to big John and got banned.

it's kind of a shame because i know how much he loves these vintage bugwagons and contributing to the forum.

the drama unfolded on off topic starting about here....

https://rennlist.com/forums/off-topi...is-over-3.html

John gave Doug fair warning to stop abusing the RL mods/admns. at post #39, but.....

and the sentence handed down from on high has all the appearances of a permanent ban.
