The madness has begun.

Going with something simple.

Ended up going with www.keystonbros.com as they are a customer of a co-worker and gave me a killer discount. I dare not say it out loud, but I got a screaming deal at more than 50% off what I thought it was gonna be.

Starting with 36 feet of the softest premium automotive grade leather I've ever seen.

The first picture shows something I was experimenting with that I don't think I'm gonna do after all. Was trying to make it a tad more puffy I think I'm just gonna do it more flat than puffy. The second picture shows the foam I'll be using as a backer.

The grommets are more than awesome. There were bigger ones, but the tool alone was $50.00. This size was like 10 for $5.00....and the tool was included in that.

My high school junior has a teacher that comes to the house twice a week for tutoring and such. Well, today..... she says is that your Porch? I want to go for a ride in it. Total MILF.

Anyway I told her what I was up to and she said her son used to be in the restaurant construction business and made booths. He gave her - yes, gave her his old Juki. I said "twin needle" and she said yes, I think so. I said "walking foot" and she said of course, its a Juki. He paid $500 for it and it just sits there.

Where was this woman a couple days ago?

Elayne is totally digging what I'm doing. I told her I was into it $200 so far and she said just take it out of her purse. THAT NEVER HAPPENS.

I'm very interested in this thread as I have a pair of Recaro SE's in my car. Mine were freebies as well, originally black. When my brother owned the car, he had them reupholstered at a local trim shop that IMO did a marginal job. I'll have them properly redone later this year. I'm looking forward to seeing yours finished.

The SE's are very comfortable and a lot more supportive than the original leather (non-sport) seats. I'm probably going with houndstooth centers in mine.

Jack, no center console.... We need to talk.

What's cool about the seats is that they are made up of six individual sections shat can each be removed independent of the other parts. If you wanted to update the center panels it's very doable without destroying the entire seat.

I like that look with a print in the center section...lots of that during that period. I've the same Recaro's and want to keep the grip the cloth gives and was thinking the same in a copper/black houndstooth (if I can find it) or black and gray as I plan to do the gray LW perlon carpet shortly.
I do like that grommet style too.

Still having a heck of a time getting the pictures to download.

Tonight I got the bottom done. It looks great. I will still go back around and do a follow up stitch to keep the seams laying down the same direction. Man, that 3/8" allowance is a bugger. Think I'm gonna go to half inch. Should be able to run twice as fast. What really took a long time is dealing with my aching back. I'm dying over here.

Finally something to show. I've gotta add some soft foam liner between the leather and the hard foam to make the head rest look right....'cause, well...

The butt part is looking better than I expected. It too will get another layer of soft foam to give it some cushy, then it will get stretched and tacked to the foam. Right now it's just sitting there all limp like.

Night night.

Reiver, here's a good domestic source for automotive houndstooth fabric. They sent me 3 nice blue/black and blue/grey samples, no charge.

Now that looks like cloth inserts. The other picture looked like a lighter blue leather.

I would have loved to do hounds tooth, but Elayne said no way. She still thinks this is a luxury car, and not a sports car. She must have been blonde in a former life. She is insisting her seat have 'extra' padding.
