82 SC Flip Price

82 SC Flip Price
What would be a "cant lose" price for a Wht/Blk 1982 911SC Targa, described as follows: Whale Tale, 16 inch koni rims, runs good, transmission good, paint good, Needs targa top recovered, needs minor interior work, Has oil leaks, normal wear/tear, 60k miles. (Cosmetically I would say nowhere near pristine/good, just fair)
Would not have to ship & will not do any maintenance before trying to resell.
1) If gotten for sub 10K, is it a no lose?
2) What is the lowest price an 82 SC Targa that at least starts & is drivable go for? (Meaning what is lowest you would you pay for such a beast)
Thanks for any input!!

bottom line is this .. you could get that car for free and still be seiously in the hole by the time you got it to a decent presentable car. it is imposible to say given your description and lack of pics.
Your cant lose price depends on a couple of factors.
1. What state the car is now ...
2. What state you want the car to be in when your done
3. The initial cost of the vehicle.
I would say if you are buying it to "flip" .. this has disaster written all over it.
As far as worth of such a car. I would nt offer more thean what you can sell the engine and transmission for ... and working and tested at that ..
.. as always just mt 2c CAD

Thanks for the reply!
Based on the above reply, I do not have access to some of the info that would help nail down a specific price (exact condition, pic, etc..) nor am i looking for a specific price. Just curious as to what you would hypothetically pay based on the info known; $5k but no more; $10k but no more; etc...
I am just seeking general input from this forum based on what IS known, think of it as a "what if", cant bind any of you experts to your offered opinion anyway
answers to above reply would be:
1. What state the car is now---fair/okay/drivable/not that great but not that bad
2. What state you want the car to be in when your done--as is
3. The initial cost of the vehicle--that's my question

Looks like a repaint from Red to White per the engine compartment pic...
Targa tops - aren't they like $1,000 to have reconditioned?
Its a targa.. seems they are always the "cheapest" model around (ie, somehow least liked/desired).
Sounds like you have a "detailing" flip in mind. Maybe get a couple K for making her real shiny and all.. but if you are selling in a cold weather climate, you will need to wait till spring to get top dollar imho.
I'd make sure head studs aren't pulled before I spent anything on it.
Maybe $8-10K to buy in.

These aren't flipper cars. You could potentially lose your ***. As ice says, you could get it for free and spend more to fix that the car is worth.
That car needs some love-it has "pay for a PPI written all over i"t.

I think a couple of these lose your *** comments are fairly untrue, but it depends on how healthy the motor is
I mean hell even if the motor had broken studs, its still worth 2500-3k in core value, the trans is worth 1-2k depending on condition
Here's the best advice I can give, if you don't get a PPI and buy it site unseen, I wouldn't pay more than 6-7k, that way you can at least get your cash back parting the car out. If you get a PPI and it turns out OK you could make a bit of money up to about 10k depends on how long you have to sell it and where you are located
And Ed unfortunately I have to disagree that these are flipper cars, if that was true there wouldn't be so many Porsche flippers out there. Hell we have on right here in PHX, and he's been in business for a few years so he's doing something right. Any car is flippable if you get it below market price, and sometimes people need to sell something quick below market price.
The key to flipping any car is knowing what price the car is in the condition it is, not what it could be worth if you did this and that and that. The question to flipping this car is.... will you pay the right price?

Then let me reword it: I'd say that these are not flipper cars for someone who posts such a thread as the one we are all on. No offense to them, but the OP doesn't seem to know anything about SC's. That's a bit different than someone who knows these cars, and does it regularly or as a business. Buyer beware.
I agree, if leakdown is good, and trans shifts smoothyou could probably squeeze out some pennies if the buyer is desperate enough to sell it for 8-9k

and Iceman I think at 6-7k you could flip for some money. I think the worst you could do it have to part it out, and you could probably still turn at profit in a 6k, break even at 7k....
