"Worth" is the interesting part. It will be worth the experience. Financially, it could be a black hole for which you won't recoup the dollars spent on the car. But I'm certain that everyone here on the forum would love to see pictures of such a car and any progress you make on it. Best wishes.

How much are you spending on the donor 911 and how much do you have to spend on the project? It could be $30,000 just to get it rolling. Of course it would be money and time well spent.

Default 2011/2012 restoration costs

These are costs which I would say are on the low to moderate side and starting out with a pretty solid 911 with minimal rust,

Figure 400 hrs at $55 per hr for stripping the old paint, body work and new paint. $22,000.

Interior at $8,000 minimum.

Other mechanicals say $10,000.

Refinished Fuchs and new tires $2,000.

Engine rebuild $15,000 to $20,000.

So right there you are at $57,000 to $62,000 plus the original cost of the 71 911.

And at least 12 to 18 months making phone calls and ******** parts.

When you are all done you get to go on road trips in something like this ..., so yes it is worth it to restore a 71 911 (this is a 70)

.....and you could easily sell it for about 40

Just kidding .. point is its a labour of love and if your "worth it" involves restoring a classic .. go for it ..

rule of thumb is you are always way better off buying someone elses black hole .. that way you know exactly what it is going to cost you and you have a finished product.

Good luck..

Question is... what is the current state of the car??

If it looks like this then 4K is a little to much... unless that is what they are paying you to take the car:
