Default Picked up a beauty today!

Hello guys,

Picked up my first aircooled today, and I am soooooo excited about it, just wanted to share. 69k on the clock, all original, California car originally. Mechanics is great, but I am still planning to rebuild the engine during winter because, I am not going to give up this one for years to come.

I will be around, more active here. Later tomorrow I will update the thread with pictures.

-Berk

Congratulations, but that rear camber is gonna kill someone. Looks like you've got 9's tucked up under that thing.

Amber, I know. I intend to do a full suspension refresh on it. More camber in the rear than I would like for daily. I will install preferably Billies or KWs and dial up the alignment properly! Good eyes though!

Very nice score.

But-Why are you set on ripping into the motor? These things are so robust, that unless you know of specific issues, you may be leaving hundred's of thousands of miles on the table.

Thanks Ed. I am a little perfectionist, and have my heart set on this beauty. I want to go through every single nut and bolt, re-torque everything, freshen up the drivetrain. At the end of the day, it is my baby, and I want to be in charge of her. Not to mention, being a factory trained technician, and the availability of a full blown garage, I want to use the benefits to my avantage. Honest truth!

I will be starting a thread, and share all the information with you guys throughout the process.

If you were closer I'd let you do a full twin-plug 3.4L conversion w/boat-tails to my engine so you'd have some experience under your belt when you dive into your baby. At your expanse of course.

Having gone through building my own 3.4L in my old '84, I understand about wanting to be in charge. While I wasn't formally trained, it came out pretty darned well! I had a pretty lengthy thread on it called Ruby Rebuild Redux.

Link it, I would love to read through. I got my training while at college, because it was the only thing I knew to survive (fix cars), and that skill provided myself an education. But after 4 years of college, I went back to the dealership Go figure...
