Default 1985 911 cab drowned

My best friend just had his 1985, 911 with 35,000 miles Brown with brown leather flooded out (Sandy). The insurance company has totaled the car and offered him 30K for the car is that a fair offer

I held out for over $10,000 more than originally offered me for a truck I had flood in my garage.

Granted I had alot of receipts, & was paying a slightly higher premium, but they originally offered
me low Blue book price on it.

Better offer than most you hear about. If he wants a project tell him to take $26K and the car, take it home, dry it out, drain/replace all the fluids, remove the interior, send the DME to FL for repair, and start the car. Who knows how it'll turn out! Of course, if it drowned in salt water, not fresh water, take the $30K!

It was salt water, the insurance company has received a salvage offer of 6,500. So to keep the car it will cost 6,500. My opinion, is also to take the 30k and get another car. I think that the salt water will cause problems in the long run. The only thing that I would feel good about is using the 35k engine after a tear down.

you know the strange thing ? a guy was wanting to have a 911 PPi'ed a few days ago and i was berated for telling him to get a flood damage specialist PPi . There will be a lot of cars like yours . I hope they scrap it and not have some unscroulous scoundral buy it and try and get the title scrubbed. it would be tempting im sure on a 35K car.

$30k is the starting point from the insurance company. Why not ask for more if it won't drop below $30k?? Seems he has nothing to lose.
For $6500, that buyer isn't intending on parting the car.
Post the full correct VIN here so somebody doing a search in the future will always be led here.

That is a great idea! Perhaps start a thread with people with insurance payouts on their Porsches with year/bodystyle and VIN. It would be even better if someone put it into a spreadsheet and kept it updated.

As I said in my original it’s my best friend’s car so I don’t have the vin. But I think that posting the vin is a great idea; I will try to get it. So that when we see a 1985 cab with 35k miles for sale next spring everyone will know the complete story!!!!!!
