Unhappy Getting Hot Again!

Been battling high oil temps. Looks like my external oil cooler thermostat is not opening all the way. My oil temp gauge is getting above the 9 o'clock position and almost to the 120C line. The lines heading up front are just a little warm, not hot like they used to get when I rarely saw temps get above about 100C even in stop and go driving with the a/c running. I have a switch in the cockpit to turn the oil cooler fan on, but that won't help if the hot oil doesn't make it up there. Cools off when I start driving.

I replaced the thermostat just 3 1/2 years ago. Is this normal for these things to malfunction this often? Can it be fixed without buying a new part?

Thanks to all!

How was the oil cooler bad? Was it clogged?

I just had mine off a couple weeks ago along with the internal thermostat. This last weekend we drove over 800 miles with the gauge sitting at about 8:00 the entire time.

Bad to me means "leaks" or totally clogged up otherwise it doesn't wear out as in old.
Which one?
Are you talking about the stock Carrera radiator unit?

I was about to say.... what can wear out on a heat exchanger? Maybe some of the veins were pinched?

Let's not break his ***** too bad guys. ....but ya, no moving parts, and nothing that a radiator shop can't correct in 20 minutes. Mine looked showroom fresh after 26 years. Nuts looks horrific, seals looked crusty, radiator looked brand new inside and out.

If your shop replaced it please tell me you kept the old one.

Sounds like a PO or PO's mechanic issue.

Sorry...seems I left out something important...the engine-mounted oil cooler was not worn out, its thermostat was. Replaced that and she's cool as a cucumber with the original oil cooler.

There we go. Triangle of Death strikes again.

Thank you for the clarification.
