Default Cold Air Intake for 3.2

New To the forum and interested in any advice as to upgrading the airbox on my 1988 3.2 with a cold air intake system. What HP gains are to be expected and does this work well with the rear engine configuration. Thanks for any advice.

You already have a "cold air" intake system delivered right from the Factory.

Go ahead and measure the ambient air temp in the engine compartment when the car is moving and you'll soon see what I mean.

You can drill 5-6 2" holes in the airbox cover for a little more intake noise and about a 2-3 BHP increase; something you cannot feel.

Funny, how the terms "cold air intake" and "catback" exhaust have become so much a part of the lexicon these days.

maybe so but I have seen "cold air" applications in front engine cars which did make a huge difference. So what would you recommend for a bit more power w/o breaking the bank. The car already has an exhaust .

As you already might know, Porsche isn't like any other manufacturer and doesn't leave such gains on the table.

Good software along with a good exhaust makes a nice improvement. Beyond that, one delves into the innards of the engine for further worthwhile gains.

I'm sure Steve can help you with software if you give him a call. Beyond that and headers with a good muffler, HP is expensive to come by.

Do a search on "Steve Wong chip".

Otherwise, another alternative to more power is less weight

"Back in the day" a cold air intake made a HUGE difference in the way the turbocharged Corvairs performed. Worth far beyond the price of the dryer hose . . .
