The world lost a great dog today
My heart is broken, as my wife called me this morning, that our beloved Kai passed away this morning. He wasn't having good days these last two, and I feared a tough decision awaiting me when I got home tomorrow. I wish I could've had one last hug, and seen his tail wag when I got home...
He had a great life once we found each other in March of 2011. He also brought us a lot of joy. We don't know how old he was-our vet thought at least 12.
It wasn't a lot of time together, but it was very good. I'm in Honolulu where the weather was great the last two days. Today, it's raining-tears for Kai.
I've been looking at iPhone pics all day.

What did Kai die from?
I lost my chocolate lab, Smokey, a few years ago to complications initiated by breast cancer. She was lean and energetic till the end. Very smart and loving dog.
She was 11-1/2 when she passed.
My condolences.

Thanks folks. We don't know. He was pretty healthy-had some mild hip displasia, a few lumps/tumors. My wife said he woke up sick night before last, ate some grass and went back to bed. He's done that before and the vet didnt worry. He also urinated a little while walking yesterday, seemingly oblivious. He seemed to show a little dimentia this morning, but it was brief. She went for a 15 minute run to the store, and came home to him in his sleeping spot. I had a feeling all yesterday, that something was going to happen. I just wanted to be home to see him again. We lost our Charlie 3 years ago, when I was out of town. It's miserable not being there.
Doug-that is my favorite pic of him. It's what I came back home to. Some watchdog-he'd be sound asleep on my pillow until I touched his belly. He'd then wake up in a trance until he'd realize I was standing there. Time to put my sunglasses on again...

Sorry for your loss Ed.......12 Dog years is equivalent to 75 human years, thats a long life and he picked you to be with in the end, thats a special feeling you can hang on to.
Our cat recently passed at home and he was 17 years old....he picked us for the last 3 years of his life and I'll be forever grateful for him doing so.

Sorry for your loss Ed. You said that he gave you much joy for the 1 and a half years that you had him. I'm sure the feeling was mutual. Think of the joy that you gave him in that short time! Godspeed Kai...

Not having "real kids", I've always looked at my dogs as my children. I cannot imagine what a parent goes through when they lose a child. This is hard to deal with.
