Default Headlight Washers

My "barnfind" SC apparently has had some past issues with the HL washer, or perhaps it was the battery. In any case the wiring plug for the washer, next to the battery was destroyed. My guess is it corroded and then got hot, but who knows.

My questions are these: Is that washer system worth worrying about (my guess is it is not) and why was the wiring to that pump so much heavier than the wires for the w/s washer pump (I'm guessing something like AWG 10 vs. AWG 14)? Is it that much bigger a pump? I haven't been able to find any photos or drawings of that installation, nor does there seem to be a separate HL washer pump listed by most of the parts purveyors. If it's the same pump, why the larger wiring?

I'm thinking this is a system that can just "go away" without being missed at all. Am I correct?

The pump is massive and draws a lot of current. I find most pumps leak anyway. There is actually a relay down there also. I will send a pic later if i remember. It all works on mine but i seldom use it.

There are two different pumps. The HL pump is P/N 477-955-670 A and is large and draws quite a bit of current. The W/S washer system pump is P/N 928-628-074-01 and mounts to the front of the trunk cross member. I have a similar system on my 88 Carrera and in my opinion it is worthless. If I was in a country where it rained a lot....maybe I'd have a different opinion.

I can honestly say, I never, ever, even tried mine on Ruby.

Default HL Washer

Thanks for the info; just as I surmised. When I get things up and running I'll try it and if it doesn't work I'll not lose any sleep over it!

Many have wound up welding up the holes whenever they get their front bumpers repainted and call it a day. The h/l washers are more important on the Bi-Xenon headlights found in the more current line up of Porsches. The lights are so bright, and so carefully trained, that crap on the headlight lens can be redirected to the wrong places and cause problems.
