I'm a little late to this one, but I just read through the whole thread. Excellent work. GREAT advice on a lot of things, too: MaxJax, for instance.

However, I think a better title for this thread would be: "Some assembly required"

Keep up the good work and thanks for all the updates.

Almost every evening I sit down to get in one last dose of Rennlist to find someone has posted spam in the 911 section. More often then not, it's in one of your threads. We know it's spam because the post never matches the thread topic, they are a new user, have a boat load of links in the post, and have identical posts in seven different forums.

Great thread! I just added a '84 3.2 Carrera to my collection with the intent of taking on a full, all-out, long nose conversion. Some of your earliest pics (white car) are very interesting though, showing the fiberglass RS front and rear caps with the hood and fenders that came on the car. Where can you get these, that will bolt up and match without having to replace the fenders and hood? (Please pardon dumb questions!).

Welcome to Rennlist!!!

No dumb questions. We all started somewhere and needed to ask something... so ask away!

Some companies sell bolt-on conversion kits (TRE Motorsports for example)... so you can take it back to original if you ever want to do so. As with any fiber glass part, these will require many hours of work to fit them and prepare them for paint.

Got go!

http://www.tremotorsports.com/ has the most complete online catalog of parts. My first visit to TRE came when the place I thought had what I needed sent me down the street to TRE. Walking in the showroom is pure heaven. They really are THE place.

Here is a photo of one kit (not TRE)... bolt on and then they finished the parts to make them ready for paint. This is what got me thinking on this project... but I will finish this one... and then search for another donor car.

If you are ever back in their shop, take and share photos

Back to the project...

I wanted to break apart the transmission from the engine to mount the engine on a stand and be able to work with some broken exhaust bolts, get the oil lines back dated, and have it ready for when I get the exhaust system that I want. I also wanted to inspect the clutch's conditon.

Good news is that it was easy to take it apart. And from inspecting the clutch, fork, etc, everything seems to be new.

Thank you for those that responded on my previous thread on questions about how to take it apart.

First I needed to remove the two tensioning springs...

Removed the starter, the nuts holding the case to the engine... put the transmission jack... and slide out the transmission. I am so happy that it did not give me a fight.

Clutch fork, gaskets, o-rings, all looks to be new...

Surface rust on the pressure plate...

And clutch disk also looks to be new...

No lunch break, just pretend to work from 11:00 - 5:00.
