Post engine serial number identification

I just wanted to know what the previous life of my transplanted engine. The number is
901 389404962
I am lead to believe that it once was a 914-6 case converted to 2.4 specs later in life.
Any help is most appreciated.

Where did you pull that number from? It doesn't look like any engine serial number - too many characters. The number is on a vertical bar at the right bottom side of the fan housing. If it's a 914-6, for example, the number would be something like 6414001.

I got it off one of my repair records, but I didn't know what one would look like. I'll check it once I get my car back.
