I'm trying to pull my alternator out and I'm about ready to give up- is it common for the alternator housing to want to stay attached to the fan housing? I can't get it to budge.... fan is still attached.
Any ideas?

That pic really doesnt belp ![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Firstly have you removed the woodruf key from the shaft ?
That should allow the fan to come off with some coaxing. I think i flipped it over and tapped it off with a piece of wood and a hammer from the back. On the edge of the fan hub.
After the fan is off it should be easier. I am sure i have seen threads on this

I put my fan housing on blocks of wood and used a hammer and large punch on the alternator (alternating blows around the perimeter of the alternator) to drive the alternator out of the fan housing. It was a tight fit and had been in there a while allowing build up of crud. After the fact, I found that the fan housings can crack. You don't want to suffer a cracked fan housing. Can be very hard to find another one. I may have been a little more careful if I realized that beforehand.
Recommend removing the fan first.

Thanks guys- it's out... I was pretty nervous about giving it a good smack seeing how much these fans cost. It's off to the powder coater. Pics to follow.

Hi guys- I need a little help sourcing a resistor... I bought an upgraded internal regulator alternator from Pelican, and the alternator light will not go out after the car is running because I need to install a resistor in parallel on the 2 watt charge indicator light.
Porsche used to sell a 91 ohm, 5 watt resistor for this upgrade. It is no longer available. Radio shack has 100 ohm, 10 watt resistors. Auto parts stores I have called are clueless (no surprise there).

For anyone tackling this project, here is all the information you will need to get your alternator warning light wired up properly after the upgrade:

I mis-spoke Peter- I meant to say that I was told the light won't go out after I get the engine running... I haven't tested it yet, but was told that I absolutely had to install a resistor up at the 2 watt warning light. Perhaps I won't need to? I'll have to wait until I get it running early next week to test it.
