No power to RH license plate light

No power to RH license plate light
Does anyone know offhand where the connector is located that connects the RH license plate cable to the left license plate cable? According to the Bentley book it looks like the RH side gets its power off the left one. I have an 83SC cab. I checked the leads at the RH light itself and I have a good ground path, but no 12VDC. Pretty sure if I could re-seat the connector it would work because the LH light is OK. PS, haven't had a chance to post any pictures yet, so here are a few. Warren

nice car Warren
I think you are basically just going to have to get down under your car and have a look. From what i remember the wires come through the bumber from the inside. it is a little tricky with the muffler there for sure but it can be done. When mine did this it was because of a coroded socket.

Thanks for the input. If I can't get to the socket I'll probably just take 12VDC from the LH light and feed it into the RH light. I've got a good ground so that's a plus. That would solve the issue for now. Warren

Gerry,
Thanks for the schematic. My Bentley book is good, but it doesn't show pin-outs like yours does. I pulled, inspected and reseated the connector for the RH taillight assembly last night, but didn't go beyond that. WHere did this schemetic come from? Warren

Manual.
Warren.
It is a re-print of the factory manual supplement.
I also have the Bentley, but I don't
use it for electrical issues.
Too many errors/omissions.
As a example, check the headlight switch wiring......

Thanks Gerry for the info. My issue is probably with the harness that goes to the RH rear turn signal housing. It looks like it supplies power to the RH license plate light. Problem is I believe I need to remove the RH housing to get to the housing and the two screws that hold the housing in place are FUBAR. I'll need to drill the heads off to get it out which I'll need to do anyway because I have new seals for both housings. Oh the joy of working on an old car. Warren

Ground.
Prior to any intrusive analysis, I would check/clean the voltage connection at
pin #1 of the 6 pin connector, and for ground at the socket.
pm me as needed.

if thats the connector i am thinking of the harness runs under the oil filter and plugs in right at the back .. couldnt be much easier to get to .

Thanks for the info. I checked for a ground path at the light itself and that is good. So when I look at the connector, is pin#1 the first pin clockwise from the indexing pin?

PIN#
Do you have 12V at the connector?
FYI:
The pin #'s are marked on the connector.
However, the only grey wire goes to pin #1.

Well, just checked the connector, here's what I have. Pins 1&4 12VDC(should be RH license plate and running lights). Pin 3 backup lights. Pin 5 brake light. Pin 6 RH turn signal. So I have power at the connector. Looks like it is the short harness running to the turn signal/brake light housing is the issue.

When I initially started troubleshooting this issue neither license plate light worked. I discovered that someone had disconnected both lights at the bumperette and had left the loose ends of the harness tucked up behind the bumper. I bought two new lights and fished the wires back through. The drivers side works fine, the RH didn't, but I did have a ground path. I'll pull the RH taillight housing and pull the harness out. I'm sure I'll find the issue. Probably just a broken wire.
