Project Car?
So I have begun an EXTREMELY early look into getting a older model 911. Maybe a project car maybe not but I'm looking to get into it for as little as possible. I've considered a older car with a salvage title and fixing it up myself but I was looking for suggestions from you guys as to what I should do as well as the specific model.
I'm assuming that after working for a couple months through my first semester of college, plus Christmas money I can save up enough to get at least the base for my project. I've passed a house that has a 964 I believe it is sitting out front for sale and I have begun my search for my new 'fun' car to give the Audi a break.

What is you budget?
I would plan on $15-$18K for a decent 78-83 SC or a little more for an 84-86 Carrera.
For a project you may find a roller for about $6,000 (hard to find now) and put about $10,000 to $15K to get it road worthy.
I would put it of until you are finshed with college, money for beer, pizza and chicks is more or a priority.
Run a search on RL for 1st time buyer advice.

I would caution that the good v. bad on the initial purchase when having a limited budget is probably 50:1 against you.

Would you recommend spending more money at the start to save spending even more later on?

There's no such thing as a cheap Porsche. You can pay now or you can pay later but either way you're gonna pay. It really depends on how much of a project you are looking for. Keep in mind that quality parts and materials for Porsche restoration will come at a price.

I would avoid looking for one with a salvage title.
Some insurance comnapnies will not provide coverage.
If you need to sell after pouring your hard earned cash into it, it will make it real tough to find a buyer.
