Question Porsche Books

I'm trying to learn! Any suggestions on best books to get me up to speed. No pun intended... OK, so it was intentional!
I'm wanting a 911!

Still just a dreamer

Not sure what you are looking to learn,

Porsche 911 Perfiormance Handbook Bruce Anderson
Porsche 911 Story Paul Frere
101 Projects for Your Porsche 911 Wayne Dempsey
Porsche 911 Service Manual (2 available for '78-83 or '84-89) If you want to learn about working on the cars.
Also Wayne Dempsey who wrote 101 projects above, and is one of the owners of www.PelicanParts.com also has a book coming out very soon, this month, I think, on rebuilding a 911 engine.
A little more detail oriented
The 1974-1989 911, 912E & 930 Porsche: Authenticity Series Mark S Haab.
There are also several technical articles and a faq or two floating around on the Rennlist site and more of the same on the Pelican Parts website.

That should get you started.

Happy New Year!

good point! I guess I want to learn how to buy a great car for under $15000.00 once I have the car I'll continue, but for now, buying is the priority.

Mike,

Let me add two to Steve's list:

The Used 911 Story, by Peter Zimmermann - very good coverage on the strengths and weaknesses of the various 911 models. Peformance Products and Pelican Parts both have it for $22.

Original Porsche 911, by Peter Morgan - excellent coverage of the 911 series through 993's. Covers all engine and chassis serial numbers along with all factory option and paint colors. You can find this on the internet for around $22-$25, it lists for $38 (Alldirect has it for $22.91, and they're usually one of the lower prices). Although you probably can't buy the first edition any more, you want to be sure to get the second edition, which covers through 1998.

Mike:

All the above are great recommedations. The only other book I can think of is the "Porsche 911 Red Book 1965-1999" by Patrick Paternie.

To get a guage of the market and for good info in general, I would recommend Excellence Magazine, the Porsche Market Letter and the PCA magazine, Porsche Panorama.

Good luck!

Mike,

2 more that you may find of interest:
1. Buying and Selling Porsches; Chris Mellor ISBN: 1-899098-02 - X ... an English book - and not just because it's written in the English language (in anticipation of wise-butt remarks *G*)
2. Illustrated Buyer's Guide - Porsche; Fourth edition; Dean Batchelor and Revised and Updated by Randy Leffingwell; ISBN 0-7603-0227-8...MBI Publishing.
Take your time - there are a lot of great cars out there, and the 'hunt' is a lot of fun and can be quite the education!
