Default Considering 1979 911SC

Considering buying a 1979-1983 911SC.

What major items do I need to inspect prior to narrowing down my interest and having it professionally inspected?

Looked at this one tonight, fairly original/mint condition and fell in love: http://bit.ly/NvTk7o

I wld start with the body, looking for hidden rust as they use salt on the roads in Canada. Check along the bottom edge where the windows make contect with the body of the car
Engine oil leaks, they all either leak now , have leaked in the past , are about to start leaking.
Transmission shifting, 1 st gear, 2 nd gear. Listen foe excessive noise while driving
Battery area rust
Door lines/ panel lines/ body condition
Smoke upon start up
Smoke while test driving.
All guages / tac/ spedo working normal
If there is fresh under coating ask why and check under it if possible Tire wear, is it even and does it appear to be normal for all 4 tires
Good luck with your find and enjoy.

Look up the ppi thread on here by Pete Zimmermann

Also consider who looked after the car and the records. If it was Brent hunter uli or eu autoworks you are in good shape.

Good luck

Thanks for the feedback and direction gentlemen. It was serviced by Dave @ Eurotune.ca. Going to have Mantis Auto in Oakville do the ppi.

Never heard of eurotune but Ernie certainly knows what he is doing. Where are you located ? Toronto on your profile but going to a shop in Oakville ?
