Rob,

Get a roughly 6"-8" long bolt. Put one end on the raised bump/lip of dust cap, with the other end towards the strut. Get a hammer. Tap, tap, tap. Turn the rotor a bit, tap, tap, tap. Repeat. It will eventually come out.

I tapped it with a hammer at an extreme angle from strut side, onto said lip, all sides and it finally started to move. It is very hard to remove with nothing to grab or hold onto. There should be a replacement with a better lip.

BTW, since you are under the car, I have same year. Inspect your turbo tie rods (assuming you have them), mine had rust and corrosion on the points that appear to be the weakest (under the boots, where they were turned) I removed and replaced. Good luck.

I used a muffler clamp on mine. Came off in about 10 seconds that way.

Definitely a muffler clamp! 2", if memory serves.
