I was coming back down from LV two weeks ago, and by the time I was back into town, she was wayyy down on power... Wasn't overheating, gauge in the middle but the car felt like a dog

When it's very hot out (100+), I tend to go easy on it and don't really push the car too much. These motors are so noisy anyway and it's been said that you probably wouldn't hear any detonation as you get into higher RPMs with high ambient temperatures. I could hear detonation on my old SC when I would push it but there was some other problem going with it at the time. High temps didn't help.
In the "cool" of the morning, power doesn't feel any different.
Not overly so...hot air doesn not help the combustion process like cool/cold air...less 'dense' but my old SC runs fine in the heat (100 plus this last week)...stays about 220 on longer drives. I don't thrash it but still wind it out.
Never had any problems on mine, or any customer cars when I lived there/had my shop going ('85-'88). We'd rent Firebird in the afternoon/evening (4P-10P) occasionally throughout the summer, and my lap times didn't vary too much from cooler days either in the 911 or my SCCA racer Scirocco.
It was running fine, idle was great, temps were normal (not even at the halfway mark). Its never really felt this down on power before in the heat. It was just after this road trip that it felt sluggish, when I drove it that night power seemed right again
Ive felt this before with my old Saab, after long summer road trips, but after I upgraded the intercooler, it wasn't as bad.
OT: I had a huge scare on the strip sitting at a light when the left front wheel starting smoking haha, a freaking brown liquer bag got blown on to my calipers/ rotor and was smoking, lucky I was able to get it out in time before it lite. Should have take some pics but was a little more worried about a fire haha
Also note to self get Carrera fan for the oil cooler, got caught in really bad traffic twice and had to keep shutting the car off to keep if from getting too hot (don't worry boys never got over the second notch)
I'm in Havasu with an 84 Carrera, about 2 months mine.I hads an SC with no A?C hence the Carrera. My SC always ran 200-210 even at 114 degrees. No A/C =no condenser, so I don't know which worked best
I was worried about my temps in my Carrera, so we got out a pyrometer. At the first line the oil temp was 188. At the second line, it was 232. When it's hot out (110-115) the temp never rises above 225. I am still going to put in an ER cooler and fan; I like 190 better.
As to the power, it's my A/C that makes a difference.
I don't take it over 3500-4000 rpm if the temp is over about 200.

Not to hijack this thread, but since this is an AZ owner attractor, I have a question.
Has anybody used the Rennaire upgrade in a Carrera? I can't decide to go that route(my compressor is leaking) or save up for the full bore Griffith's. Any experiences?
I'm still running the stock systems, plans for a second condensor upgrade in the future, but right now I just tend not to drive in when its above 100 (as the stock a/c doesn't really like above that temp haha)
I know what you mean. I still drive mine in the summer, and the a/c (with R12) actually works pretty well. THe key, of course, is starting with a garaged car. Unfortunately, you have to stop somewhere without shade, and the car heat sinks. Then the a/c doesn't do much for about 15 hot minutes at 55 mph. That's why I'm inquiring on supplemental systems.
