Once it's stripped, it'll stay that way. I pulled my AC while living in Dallas.

I'm just finishing up my A/C delete on my 84. I decided to keep the evaporator/smuggler's box blower (but without the evaporator coil and expansion valve) to use to blow some fresh air out of the A/C vents. I added a 3" PVC duct to the blower box and ran a 3" duct to the front of the car where the front condersor fan was, where I am adding a NACA vent.

I am adding an inline fuse to the blower motor and moving the fan speed control to the dash.

I hope it works.

Not a bad idea...weighed the car today and it was 2800lbs wet (3/4 tank of gas) and me in it @170 lbs. So am getting there.
I'm devising a window pully strap so I can remove the motors and whatnot from the doors.....it's like a virus when you get started....weightwatchers...

Ditch the seats and go with Recaros or similar for some meaningful weight loss. I think I got to 2650 with an 85lb roll bar in place, yet still had stock bumpers and sheetmetal.

My stock seats need recovering anyways (the PO accidentally locked his cat in the car and she took it out on the passenger seat)
Where is the best (read least expensive) place to source them or a similar good lightweight unit?

A few of the vendors here carry seats. You can go for a shell, which are the lightest, in a number of variations. You can also look at something like a Recaro Speed/SRD that allows for reclining and tilt, but has deeper bolsters, and weighs 1/2 of a stock seat. You can find them used in the usual spots fairly regularly. I've got one laying around somewhere I need to get rid of one day.

I'll def get something that reclines/adjusts. The stock seat is comfortable as all hell and fits me like a glove...that'll be hard to improve on but I found a few sites that carry what look to be good seats at a reasonable rate.
I suspect the stockers are pretty heavy.

The shells have a reline/ adjust, but not a folding option. The folding option is more convenient obviously but carries a weight penalty. The factory Sport Seats are a nice compromise, and weigh in at just around 30 lbs each. But they are sort of spendy and hard to find. I would expect to spend around $1,000 for a set installed. Add a bit more if they need to be re-covered.

As I recall, my factory sport seats originally in Ruby, which were sold for good $ needing recovering, were north of 40lbs each. The Recaro Speed/SRD does have the folding or tilt forward option and were about 25lbs. My Recaro Profi SPG XL was about 16 or 18lbs iirc.

But, my brain is cooked from Kansas and Nebraska heat this week. On my way back to San Diego...

Was looking thru that 'weight loss' thread on the Pelican...."438Lbs Gone in 5 Days" and he weighed every item he pulled from his '87 and listed the stock sport seats as 50 lbs each....I suspect they may weigh a tad more than my non elec adjust standard models.
I'll pull one out tomorrow and weigh it. Possible 20 to 40 lb savings to be had.

The non-power Sport Seats weigh 34.4 pounds each. We did a thread on this subject a while back (2009) and I pulled my driver's seat and weighed it on a doctor's scale.

Mine were 45 or 50. I noted 50lbs of savings total. They were manual sports.

Weighed both seats...driver 33 lbs and passenger 31.5 lbs. I'd be hard pressed to find a good replacement seat (recline/adjustable) too much under 30 lbs unless I went to a racing shell and I don't want to go there as it is for street use.
Anyone know of a 20lb adjustable seat out there reasonably priced?
