whale tail delete
Yet another question. On my quest to finding my future 911, I was wondering if it's possible to remove a whale tail on an engine lid ? I'm not a fan, so I keep passing on cars that would otherwise be interesting.

I actually think the cars with the FACTORY TAIL would be better to buy if you plan on deleting the tail. The reason is that to buy all that stuff and add it later, you'd be spending easily a few $K on the total project, with all used parts. All you'd have to do is to save the old lid and tail, have a used lid painted to match and remove the right side lid strut.

Yeap: save the old and install what you need,..of course painting/matching can be challenging but comes with the turf...but certainly NOT a reason to decline a fine specimen,..as Rusnak noted, it's pay to play,..and easily done.
As to "tails", I just could not imagine mine without it!!!!!!!!!

Seems to be a love/hate thing about the whale tails. I know many suggest it hinders performance without one........however, I took mine off and would NEVER put one back on. My personal opinion is that a tail 'dates' the cars.
Deleting a tail is not cheap.......you have decklid, new grille and paint.
As Ed said.....if you find a car you like, thats paramount.....the tail is a simple fix.

I don't know I'd call it a fix, however. I don't like driving 911's at speed without a tail. They are absolutely functional on one of these cars to negate high speed lift. More so than many other cars, who typically add tails for looks. They ultimately became standard on all future rear-engined Porsches and most of their other vehicles.

My compromise (money permitting) would be the Singer
