Post OT: Advice on helmets

Slightly off topic post here: I am looking for a new helmet for DE events. Any suggestions on helmets and/or where to buy them? Thanks.

Nate,

Go somewhere to try helmets on. They all fit differently. When I got my current helmet, a Bell M2, I tried on 3 different manufacturer's helmets: First just didn't fit, second went on and darn near didn't come off, and third was the Bell. Even within manufacturer's lines the helmets can fit differently. And just to complicate things, I understand Bell changed their sizing with the SA-2000 helmets. The Bell M2 is good if you wear glasses, as the opening is a bit larger. Recommend a full face helmet, with the lower part across your jaw. OG Racing is a good source, may even be in driving distance for you.

I went to a local motorcycle dealer and tried on different brands of helmets to get one that fit.

You'll also probably want to get a SA2000 or alternatively SA95 helmet as some events will not allow motorcycle helmets (MA2000, MA95) since they are not fire retardant.

Absolutely try them on before you buy, even if you buy over the Internet. I bought a full face helmet at a local shop and an open face helmet over the Internet. Both fit fine, but the open face helmet doesn't accomodate my glasses very well, something I would have figured out had I tried it on first.

For DE, my personal preference is to use a full face helmet. It's a little harder to talk and a little hotter, but I want all the protection I can get when going triple digit speeds. I use the open face helmet for autocrossing.
