Clutch pedal won't return to position - cable not broken.

On my 3rd drive ever of my 911, I ran into a new problem: The clutch pedal broke.
...or so I thought. We checked the helper spring and and cable underneath the car, and both seem to be okay. When you move the pedal, the cable moves just like it should when at the transmission. The helper spring isn't broken, either.
This problem didn't happen over time, it was all at once. I went to shift from 2nd to 3rd, but the car would go into 3rd. I thought, "what the heck?" so I put it in neutral and took my foot off the clutch... and the pedal didn't come back!
Anyone have any ideas what the problem could be?

I think it would go into 3rd because the clutch was not actuating with the pedal... But I don't know. The spring at the floorboards seems to be intact. Would that help pull the pedal down and not up?

No need for that, but a clutch perhaps, and whatever sealing that may need to be done. Sound pad, general cleanup, etc. I'd look at it as a $2k project, maybe less.

I think you need to double-check everything first. You can undo the clutch linkage at the trans and see what may be binding through the assembly. If you have access to a boroscope, they are cheap at HF, you can look down the inspection window in the trans bell housing. The forks are known to bend, however.
