Default Hey guys...always wanted to own a Porsche 911 turbo

What is the best year to go with? Not looking to spend more than $50K. I like the 996's. Looking for a tiptronic transmission instead of the manual. I have always owned front engine cars and love rear wheel drive, but guess I am going thru a midlife crisis, so wanting to buy one within the next few years. Right now I am leasing a 2011 Infiniti G37 convertible. I like to do the maintenance on my own but guessing Porsche's may be too much for me to do.

Any advice would be helpful.

You may want to pick up the June 2012 issue of "excellence" magazine which discusses the 996 Turbo for reasonable amounts of money (under your budget of $50k). Maybe see if you can find a 2001 to 2005 996 based Turbo. 415 hp, 415 ft lbs with all wheel drive and improved ride quality over previous generations and the availability of an automatic. Many of these cars were loaded to the gills with equipment when new, so they make for nice used cars since the options only bring a fraction of what they cost new, if anything.

Plus, the big draw to the Turbo versions of the 996 is the lack of typical 996 motor issues.

I bet you'll find a nice car for cheap if you want a Tiptronic. Those always seem to bring a bit less...

Good luck!

The number of 996/997 posts in this section have been staggering as of late. You think someone is toying with us?
