Hello
Wondered if i could get some advise from you guys please with i dilemma i have?
Here we go.
I currently have a 19741 911T 2.4 left hand drive in yellow with only 3328 miles on the clock from new in my garage, it has been sat for 2 years in the guys garage and not moved at all. But the vehicle has been rarely used in the 10 years he has owned it.
Before i started it we checked the oil and cranked it over before firing it up but there is loads of smoke coming out the exhaust (Burning loads of oil), so much so it is dangerous to other road users if used on the road.
Could anyone tell me if it is lethal to leave a 911 engine without using them and if so what happens to the engines when left for long periods of time or is it simply something i have over looked?
Here are a list of things i have done so far:
1. Checked engine oil level to make sure its not over filled.
2. Checked engine breather pipes for blockage as far as i can see.
3. Given engine an engine flush, then replaced engine oil new oil.
Still it smokes like a steam engine.
The mileage is really low for the age is a wonder it actually started at all.
Chow for now.
Jeff

Sometimes it helps to drive a car that has been sitting. It will help the piston rings re-seat to the cylinders. Putting a load on the motor (gentle driving mind you) may help clear it up. It may take several drives to clear everthing up. You may want to drain and replace the fuel too, but not without making sure all the fuel lines are secure and in good shape to be driven on.

I thought that may be the problem, i vaguely remember someone saying the piston rings may be a problem if these engines are unused but never took much notice until now.
If this were to be offered to me as he may want to sell, how much should i offer him as this car is in original great condition with only 3328 miles on the clock and it was kept in a dry garage all its life.

That's a '72 with the pass side oil door.
This car is a collector's dream, even with the smoking engine. The smoking can be cured.
My guess on value, if it was in the U.S., $50-75k usd. I could be wrong of course.

Very nice looking car. If it is in fact all original and the miles are correct, you would be well served to refresh the motor regardless of condition. Putting an old drivetrain back into service is asking for problems. Those old valve guides/seals/hoses/MFI can deteriorate quickly. These old cars (especially nice ones) beg to be restored and then the expensive love affair begins.
Good luck and post some more pictures when you can.
