Ack, cancel - I was thinking track use. Motul is cheep and a lot better fluid than ATE FWIW. Esp so for track use.

The records I got from the original owner (1 owner car before me) are unfortunately incomplete: don't start until 100k miles in 1993 and end at 200k miles in 2004. They do not show any shock or suspension work. Lots of oil changes, tune ups, tires, etc.

The tire balance was done more as a diagnostic tool than anything else; I wanted to see if it was tires or suspension that was causing the bumpy ride. I plan of putting on new Bridgestone RE960s all the way around as soon as I have it riding right and get it aligned.

The car has green shock covers, so I'm guessing Bilsteins? I'm still considering putting in Bilstein Sports while I'm there.

I've already got the hard and soft lines off along with the calipers; I was very careful and used lots of WD-40 and flarenut wrenches. Whoever put the rear caliper on the leading edge where the bottom bolt is blocked by the arm should be sacked. Or maybe shot. Or sacked and then shot.

Stopped by an Advance Auto (never again) on my way home to get a 2" exhaust clamp and some cleaner. After standing in line for 20 minutes while they tried to fix their computer, I left it all there. I'll go by a AutoZone tomorrow.

It's been a long week, and I need an Irish whiskey.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to contribute. I'm starting to really love the 911 and its quirks. Well, some of them. At least when you see someone driving a nice 911, you know you're looking at either a car nut or someone with lots of money and a good mechanic.

Do remember to properly set that 20 degree point on the pistons.

Best,

Is there a place to buy that tool or do I just make one? Anybody got a scan to make a template?

Do one piston at a time - start to finish. Simply line up the first one, during install, with the untouched one, then line up the second one with the finished piston.

Or, if you think it's easier, cut out a piece of cardboard to fit where it needs to be.

All you need is a protractor to lay out the angle on a piece of cardboard or card stock.

card stock works well. I used card stock, then transferred it to some tin and made a template. Ed (Ivangene) took my scan and made a bunch of the Ate style tools, which was very nice of him, because he also gave them away.

Craig motul is super expensive up here as it has very limited suppliers . maybe I will look at picking some up the next time i am in the US. I only pay 12 bucks for a can of super blue at Hershey so seems reasonable to me..

Waiting on parts is a bummer.

But the wheel wells are much cleaner.

Are there any good uses for old brake rotors? Boat anchors? Frisbee golf?

Table lamp bases!

Please consider your Bilstein, HD vs Sport, choice carefully. First, Bilsteins are the only way to go. That said, my SC is a coupe set at Euro height. The PO had, not long before I bought the car, installed Sport Bilsteins. That car rode horrible, and that was before I lowered it. BTW; I'm a racer at heart, love to feel the car work under me, but, man, it was bad. I replaced an almost new set of Sports with HDs, and...aaaaaaahhh.

Your Targa will have all of its built-in quirks, such as cowl shake, magnified by using Sports. Some folks love them, I didn't/don't. Just sayin'.

I think I am going to go with Sports in the rear and HD in the front. If I don't like the Sports, I'll rip'em out and put in HDs. It's only money, right?

Speaking of table lamps.......My father, who died early of alcoholism (started drinking in WWII and never quit) was a good machinist and mechanic. About the only thing I have left of his are his medals, and.........2 solid brass table lamps that he machined. Those things are indestructable and would actually make pretty good weapons.

+1 on the rear being terrible with too much shock valving. I agree...think through this carefully.

^ ice also drives with the top off in all weather conditions and uses old brake pads to file his nails.

Sorry, nothing valuable to contribute to this thread just saw the opportunity to poke fun
