Know what's funny? I had to reread this, as I initially took it as meaning MORE vehicles would be brought into the "program." Then I had to remember '81 is more current than '75................ Why would I EVER think something like this would get this far in CA????

Can you imagine the 3.2's roaming the streets with SSI's dumping into an open can:

Getting us back to the 30 rolling exemption.... kind of, if they pass new legislation every 5 years to bring the exempt year forward 5 years. lol Dumb**** politicians need something to do.

If the legislators in California knew anything about Porsches, they would include all SC's up through 1983. They are all the same. Why the cut-off at 1981. I know they are covering a lot of cars, but if they were smart, they'd do it logically in blocks of years. Somebody ought to bring this to their attention.

Yeah, but they don't. If the legislation was written last year, it would be a nice round 30 year cut-off, just like it used to be before they passed the new law pegging the cut-off at 1975 in perpetuity.

Bill was voted down 4-3, but granted reconsideration at a later date. All CA car nuts should write letters. I've sent mine.

California Bill to Exempt pre-1981 Vehicles From Emissions Inspection Requirement Fails Committee Vote; Granted Reconsideration

Legislation (S.B. 1224) to exempt all motor vehicles prior to the 1981 model year from the emissions inspection requirement has been granted reconsideration after failing to be approved by a Senate Transportation and Housing Committee vote. The bill failed on a 3-4 vote, with two committee members not voting. The bill will be reconsidered in a future committee hearing. Those who voted in favor of the bill are Senators Gaines, Harman and Wyland. Those who voted against are Senators DeSaulnier, Lowenthal, Pavley and Simitian. Senators Kehoe and Rubio did not vote on the bill.

I already wrote to him. What a deadbeat. Abstained?

I pointed out that the regs put an undue economic strain on the poor and elderly, who may have older cars. I'm civic minded that way.....
