Post Cops Keep Getting me

Well I hadn't driven my 911 much over the winter, not that we have a winter here in Southern California any way,but decided to take it out more often in the past two weeks. The consecquence of take the car out for a spirited drive over that past 3 weeks, 2 speeding tickets.

I hadn't been hit with any speeding tickets since my days in college.Any how I was guilty as charged on both tickets, as I was doing well over 90 MPH on both.

I'm just looking forward to my track days in a couple months.

Must agree - my RD an Escort Passport 7500, has saved me many a ticket. I understand that the the Valentine V1 is even better - $399 & rated #1 by Car and Driver.

I have the Passport 8500.Saved me many times. If I could mix the arrows from the V1 with my 8500 dot matrix display it would be the perfect detector!

I gave up on using my detector...Nothing beats the eyes...You can get overconfident with a radar detector...Now I just blow doors when I KNOW its safe...
2 over 90 MPH could hurt bad, depending on what the law is there. When I lived in Michigan, you could get your license taken and or a Reckless driving ticket for so much over the posted limit...
Good luck/skill!

You are not guilty until you have been convicted. You have just been accused. Go to the National Motorists Assn website, read it, and then decide if you think it has value, (which it has). Don't lay down for this system; it is not about safety, just revenue. For what was your car designed?? How is it operated outside the US?? If someone passed a law against thinking, would anyone break it?? Think about that.
Email me if you need more information. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[bigbye]" title="" src="graemlins/xyxwave.gif" />

Agent,

Believe me I know how you feel... I was 27 when I bought my first 911. I got more tickets in the first 6 months I owned that car than I got in my whole life!!! At the time, I too was living in L.A and believe the Cops just "get your number..." and start doin' their thing. Maybe they just resent someone who's lucky enough to own a car they would really like to… As a matter of fact, I was actually told by a State Trooper that he “just wanted to get a closer look” at my car as he was waiting for my autograph on his ticket book!

I concur with Douglas_T's M.O. I am now on my third 911 and over the years have possibly developed a "sixth sense" to know when it’s safe to do a little spirited driving. Only two speeding tickets in almost 80,000 fun-filled Porsche miles! I do plan on investing in a good radar detector, someday...

Online Traffic School. If your infraction doesn't qualify, go to see the judge and request it. If it hasn't been 18 months, go to the judge and ask for Repeat Offenders Traffic School (12 hours, no online schools allowed).

When I decide to have some fun an exceed the limit on public roads, I use every advantage I can get including sight. There has been more than one occasion when cresting a hill or around a blind corner, that an officer was shooting someone else or just has his radar on, and the good old escort picked it up when there was no way I could have seen him first. This is why I use one. I'll use everything available to try and keep things to my advantage...

Jim

I'll swear by the V1. And being careful.

Paul, if I saw you go by in that car, I'd stop you too. Don't know about the ticket part though.

Agent,

You'd be money ahead and without the tickets with a V1.

I gave up on detectors myself. It seemed that every time mine was on, my sixth sense shut off. While it did not present a problem most times, at others when driving at 55 (x 100 rpm) with no other car in front, the detector didn't really help. Not to mention the fact that had I been at full attention I would have picked up the cop beforehand. Too much reliance on the device. Complacency. So one day I ditched it. While they keep getting better and better, I'll wait until the day I can get one with almost 100% efficiency at all times. Until that day, I'll use my eyes. I've never been stopped when using those to their full potential along with a basic sixth sense of the location.

I also find that speeding is becoming harder and harder to do. Even in places where a couple of years ago you could go quickly. I am one click away from giving up on the endevour of high speed travel that someone in a free country should enjoy and might start driving like regular folk. That is, have the cruise control set at ten miles over, have a ralaxed "could car less" driving position, then look at the scenery and not pay attention to the conditions at hand. Heck, at least that is what the powers that be want you to do anyway.

Ed,
You live down in AZ, and can't go out into the desert and open her up???? I live in UT, and on the way to Wendover Nevada, there are straight stretches of divided highway as far as the eye can see, and during the weekdays, there may only be one HP patrolling the entire 120 mile stretch. This is where I use both sight and the RD. I take her up to 130 - 140, when I see there is no traffic in front of me for a half mile or so (granted I don't maintain that speed for long). What a thrill. I love it. I've had the RD go off a couple of times as an HP car was sitting down in the median (that I could "not" see) with his Ka band on shooting cars in both directions. My RD saved my butt. I love to drive my car the way it was intended to be driven when I have the opportunity. I don't depend only on the RD, believe me, at those speeds, my eyes are peeled and very focused on what's ahead.... BTW, I don't drive like that all the time, in fact I generally never exceed the limit by more than 10 mph, except when I decided to take her out for that particular run, but I just have to do it.. I'm addicted...

Regards,
Jim
