question reagrding 1980 911sc vin#
a fellow i know has a 1980 911sc and i told him i would run a carfax for him since i have 3 left over from a recent 911sc purchase.
he gave me the vin# and it is 91A0140843 (**i changed the last 3 digits for his privacy)however most post 1975 porsche i've owned all start with WP0 and have a total combination of 17 letters/digits....just like my current 1982 911sc and the 996 i recently sold.
this number IS the vin and is stamped on the drivers door post, riveted on the window post and on both the title/registration and insurance card??
is this a eurpoean model?...what is the deal with this vin#??

That is the correct nomenclature for a US 1980 SC's VIN.

The 17 digit vin arrived in '81 for all manufacturers. Carfax only tracks cars with the 17 digit VIN.
Getting info on pre-81 cars is dicey at best without records and receipts.
