Default 425k mile 911SC!

Would you even consider buying such a car?

Porsche : 911 Porsche : 911 - eBay

Presumably it was well maintained, otherwise it would have never gotten to that many miles. Where do you think the price will top out?

Why is the top of the gas tank burgundy? What's with the lower body panel in front of the gas tank? Hmmmmm, front end collision, maybe?

Engine compartment maintenance/appearance is very sloppy, but engine does have Carrera chain tensioners.

Dashboard cover is hiding something...

An old car that might be fun for a DIYer to own and tinker with. I wonder if the door windows roll up and down?

Nice looking car and if I hadn't just bought a 1984 Targa with 229k for $10,550, I would probably bid on it up to about $7k. If it was as meticulously maintained as mine, which was a 1 owner car, and was always in a dry area of California, it could be worth it.

I'd want an engine and transaxle rebuild eventually, so I'd start saving my pennies.

I know of someone here in RDU with a 1980 SC that has been his daily driver since 1981 with over 407k miles the last time I spoke with him and running like a champ.

Make the guy an offer based on passing an agreed upon PPI, he can delist it, then relist if you find too many major problems (head studs, leak down etc).
If you buy low then a top end or rebuild will still have you in a safe place financially.
Looks pretty nice actually.

I don't know if I want to buy, just more amazed to see a 911 with so many miles! If I have time, maybe I'll swing by and see it in person on my way home.

my mechanics 89 Carrera 3.2 has ~300k miles and runs very strong (port & polished might give you a hint).

We work on several SCs/Carrera 3.2s that have over 300K on them, and they still all run great! The common denominator, besides all being well maintained, is that is that all are driven normally, and driven well, as in consistently being allowed to fully warm up and stretch their legs.

The garage queens that putter around town and never fully warm up are the ones that leak oil from every seal and break head studs and have prematurely worn valve guides.

That isn't worth $6200. I'd spring for $10K more, and get 300,000 of those miles back to enjoy myself.

But yes, pretty amazing to be alive and mostly well with that many miles.

Looks like a nice car, as always I would want to drive it before hand. There is no way I would go in to this one blind. But this is what I will say. Porsche is no longer making the 911SC or Carrera any more (obvious I know) but what that means to me is that every one is special. As a Porsche enthusiast, to say the least, I could never let any one go to waist. No matter the miles or condition its a Porsche, as we all know the only issue is every truly money. With enough of that you can bring even the most helpless cases back to life.

There is a certain magic to these old air cooled, truly hand made 911's. For me they resemble a time when craftsmen truly cared about what they did. A time before robots, computers, and fancy things like ABS and traction control. A time when cars were machines. Any way, enough with the rambling.

Let no Porsche go unloved.

Based 100% on pure opinion, I think this car would be slightly(and only slightly)more attractive if it were a coupe. It could be a fun project for somebody - sure. This car probably needs everthing much like any 911 of similar vintage with a 1/4 of the miles and without clear records of service and repair; I would price it based on how many of the parts are still useable without rebuilding/restoration. WAY overpriced.
