Advise regarding Dash
Hello folks, forgive me if this is a subject that's been beaten to death. I'm new to the porsche world and am restoring an 83 911 cabrio. The dash needs a lot of work and there do not seem to be any available anywhere. Does anyone know of a source for the 83 year or will 84 work?
any help would be greatly appreciated.

We need some pics of your before, process and after!

Did you try Pelican Parts??
There is a guy parting out a '79 SC on ebay...look under Porsche 911 sc and you'll see plenty of used parts. Drop him a linw ith your needs, everything will fit. He had the leatherette facing on a week ago but not sure if it sold.
Depends on how much you want to spend. If you are talking about the top part of the dash, your best bet is to remove the dash and have it re-covered. When I priced it for my '87 that was actually the cheaper option. Chances are, if there is a used dash out there, it's going to have needs as well. If you just want something that looks nice and doesn't cost a fortune, the dash caps are not bad. That's actually the direction I went as I wasn't looking for concourse. The fit was acceptable although it took a little patience to get it the way I wanted it. I also tried using few different adhesives (double sided tape, etc.), but the supplied RTV wound up working the best. Just be prepared to remove the excess. I doubt the average person, without looking closely, could tell it's a cap. Price with shipping was $129 off of the auction site. I had to have blue as thats the color of my interior trim.
P.S. If you do go with the blue, do not use alcohol to try and clean up the excess RTV. It will remove the color as well.
Hope this helps.

Joe offers a good option. There are indeed some guys who can work magic on ratty dashes. One is Rob Budd, give him a shout:

Got it. I'll upload some pics and the process when I get done with it. The car is in the paint shop right now, so I have some time to start playing around with recovering... since that is what I will probably have to do.
best,
