Default SSI COMPATIBILITY QUESTION

Can a thick-flanged SSI that was originally on a 3.0 engine fit a 3.2?

great question , not sure if the exhaust piping was bigger to accomodate more flow of the larger displacement on the 3.2 . if they are the same i dont see why it wouldnt fit . is there an SSI website ? if so see if the P/N is different from late SC to early Carrera

The stock Carrera HE's have a 1 5/8" ID primary, but I believe the SSI's are 1 1/2" - ideal for up to 3.0 liters but too small for the 3.2. I might be misremembering.

i thought only diff is flange thickness. one has thin flanges, one has thick flanges to accomodate the longer studs. otherwise no diff. with a stud swap they would be interchangable.

Ok, my dumb question of the day....why a thick flange vs. a reg flange? What was/is the purpose behind that?

Thats correct. All SSI's have 1.5" tubes.

....wait a minute tho ....
thin flange was 78 and 79 ,, later SC went to thick flange up to 83 ? and if Carrera was thick Flange why would they have a different part number than late SC ? I am sure there is a difference other than flange otherwise they would have the same part number.
