magnetic lettering
Hi,
I'm looking for racing numbers to put on my car (just for autocross purposes). Can anyone recommend a place to get magnetic numbers to put on?
Thanks,
Boris

try your local sign/lettering place!
A bunch of guys in the vw scene have done this type of non-permanent logoing (wanna be herbies etc).
Or you could go w/ die-cut vinyl lettering like Thom's yellow panel on vintagebus.com (check it out), that's more permanent but looks really clean.
Hope this helps,
Pete

Hi Boris,
I got my numbers from Laura at Hergesheimer Motorsports in Lake Forest (Ornage County) CA. You can contact her at motorsport@herg.net or call her at 949/458-7223.
She did the ones for my car and a number of other people in the PCA/OCR. I am very happy about how they look. The cost is around $50 for the two.

Well, I am working up a design now, you can see some of them at Pelican's 911 BBS.

Could do a modified design for anyone just ask...
Take the .tiff file to FastSigns and they will make it for you...

Boris, I recently had magnetic numbers made and was very happy with the work done by:
Jose I. De La Cruz
IDSigns & Graphics

Fairview, NJ 07022 USA www.IDSIGNS.com

He has an extensive portfolio that you can choose from, or (as in my case), he created a new design while I watched. Hope this helps.

Boris,
If you don't mind doing a little work yourself, go to TAP Plastics (on South Van Ness - I see you're from SF - there are others around the Bay area, too) and get some magnetic stock (3 feet wide and sold by the linear foot) and some 8"-10" vinyl numbers. Stick 'em on and cut them out. It's easy, pretty cheap and they look great.
Two pieces of advice: ALWAYS wipe the back of the magnetics off before you put them on the car and NEVER slide them into position. If you don't get them on the car straight, take them off and try again. All the little bits of dirt that tend to cling to the magnetics can scratch the heck out of your doors if you aren't careful.
See you at the 3-Com autocross on the 14th?

You can save yourself a lot of time and trouble by ordering straight from the Solotime catalog. They specialize in magnetic and vinyl numbers and lettering. They have different fonts and colors, and you can order the numbers by themselves or already on a panel. The prices are great (around $5 for a standard color 10" number) and they're very friendly (it's a family business run by autocrossers).
Plus they have about 8 pages of racing signs, so you can pick up an SCCA or Porsche sign while you're at it.
I ordered large round white magnetic panels for my p-car and stuck reusable vinyl numbers on them. Gives the car a great vintage racing look.
No, I'm not affiliated with them - but I've always been very happy with their service.

OOPS!
I guess I left you without the most important piece of information...
Unfortunately, the Solotime folks don't have a website or an 800 number, but you can reach them at (316) 683-3803.
Their email addy is solotime@southwind.net
